1. Can I be an apprentice while still in school?

Yes, however you need to find a job with an employer who sponsors apprentices.

2. Can I be an apprentice with any electrician/plumber in the state?

No. The sponsor (employer) must be registered with the NH State Apprenticeship Council. For the employer to register as a new sponsor, contact the US Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training at (603) 225-1444 and they will help the employer fill out "Standards for Apprenticeship".

3. Can I test out of some schooling?

New apprentices who have over 2,000 hours of on-the-job training may be eligible to test out of some schooling. The sponsor (employer) should contact US Department of Labor

4. How can apprenticeship help me further my education while still working?

With each apprenticeship, there is a course related instruction. You apply what you learn in school on the job.

Yes, in certain occupations. For further information, contact the US Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training at (603) 225-1444.

6. Is there an age requirement?

Yes, you have to be at least 16 years old or a student in a vocational high school.

7. How do I become a registered site to sponsor apprentices?

The US Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training at (603) 225-1444 will help you fill out the "Standards of Apprenticeship".

8. Where can I get an application for a green apprenticeship ID card?

The licensing boards issue these cards. The Electricians' Licensing Board's telephone number is (603) 271-3748 and the Plumbers' Licensing Board's telephone number is (603) 271-3267.
