The Fair Labor Standards Act provides a minimum age of 18 years for any occupations which the Secretary of Labor "shall find and by order declare" to be particularly hazardous or detrimental to a youths health and well-being. This minimum age applies even when the youth is employed by the parent or person standing in place of the parent. No youth shall be employed or permitted to work in any hazardous occupation, except in an apprenticeship, vocational rehabilitation, or training program approved by the commissioner.
